An Interview with Dr. Marcia Hartt, MD, CCFP

February 28, 2026

Dr. Marcia Hartt MD CCFP cosmetic injector in St. Albert and Edmonton specializing in Botox and dermal fillers.

19 Years of Experience. A Thoughtful Approach to Aesthetic Medicine.

We are proud to welcome Dr. Marcia Hartt, MD, CCFP to the External Affairs team.

With 19 years of experience in cosmetic injectables, Dr. Hartt brings depth, perspective, and clinical insight to her work. She has injected through evolving techniques, shifting trends, and changing standards in aesthetic medicine.

As she begins this next chapter at EA, we sat down with her to discuss what experience has taught her, what patients often misunderstand about injectables, and how she approaches treatment planning today.

One theme surfaced repeatedly: responsibility. Her approach is measured, deliberate, and grounded in anatomy, safety, and artistry.

I am not trying to change how you look, but instead take you back to how you looked 5 to 10 years ago.”

On Misinformation and Responsible Injecting

When asked what patients often misunderstand about injectables, Dr. Hartt answers without hesitation.

“There is a lot of misinformation right now about fillers,” she says. "Most of this misinformation has nothing to do with the fillers themselves, but instead poor injection technique."

Hyaluronic acid fillers are composed of a substance naturally present in the body. When placed appropriately by someone who understands facial anatomy and safety, they are a well-established treatment option.

For Dr. Hartt, the conversation is just as important as the injection itself.

“Experience and sound clinical decision-making matter. Understanding anatomy and risk management is essential.

She also notes that hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved if necessary. Education, transparency, and thorough assessment are central to her consultations.

Non-Surgical Nose Job Before and After

This patient received 1 syringe of dermal filler to refine the nasal profile and smooth contour irregularities. Strategic placement improved overall balance without surgery.

Nose filler can address concerns such as minor asymmetry, dorsal humps, or subtle tip refinement.

Results are immediate, with minimal downtime, and designed to maintain natural facial harmony.

Prevention, Structure, and Knowing the Difference

Dr. Hartt clearly distinguishes between neuromodulators and fillers.

Neuromodulators are commonly used to soften wrinkles by temporarily decreasing the repetitive muscle movement that contributes to wrinkle formation.

Fillers serve a different purpose. They address structural changes and volume loss that occur with aging. They are not a replacement for surgical intervention, but in appropriate candidates they can help restore volume, facial balance and youthful appearance.

“What you do for one patient may not be right for another,” she says. “That comes with experience.”

Each treatment plan is individualized and grounded in careful evaluation. We have also discussed common misconceptions about fillers in greater detail in this article.

Precision Over Popularity

After nearly two decades in practice, Dr. Hartt is drawn to areas that require thoughtful planning and anatomical precision.

She is particularly known for her work in the tear trough region, a delicate area that demands careful product placement and detailed structural understanding. She is also known for her full face transformations, which usually involve fillers to multiple areas on the face to lift cheeks, soften jowls and decrease the unwanted shadows that develop with age. She also treats areas such as the temples, chin, jawline, and nose when appropriate. You can view more of Dr. Hartt’s work on her Instagram page.

“I enjoy treatments that require careful assessment,” she says. “Every face is different. The goal is always balance.”

Challenging cases are approached methodically. Experience informs each decision.

Cheek and Tear Trough Filler

Before and After

– Dr. Marcia Hartt, MD, CCFP

This patient received a customized filler treatment focused on restoring midface volume and softening under eye shadows.

Cheek filler was used to provide structural support, which helped improve the appearance of the tear trough area and lower face. Targeted treatment was also performed in the tear troughs to enhance overall facial balance.

The result is a refreshed, natural appearance while maintaining her unique features.

When Results Feel Natural

For Dr. Hartt, meaningful outcomes are not defined by dramatic change.

"Fillers and neuromodulators are placed carefully to restore youth in a natural way. I am not trying to change how you look, but instead take you back to how you looked 5 to 10 years ago."

She recalls treating patients who experienced structural changes to the nose following prior trauma. In carefully selected cases, nose filler can improve contour and restore proportion.

“When someone feels more like themselves again, that is powerful.”

Her philosophy centers on refinement rather than reinvention. The intention is to support natural harmony and preserve individuality.

Why External Affairs

When asked what drew her to External Affairs, Dr. Hartt speaks about alignment.

“External Affairs has been around for many years. It is a clinic people recognize and trust. Their values and ethics align with my own.”

She appreciates the professionalism, longevity, and collaborative culture within the clinic. For a physician with nearly two decades of experience, that alignment was important.

Beyond the Clinic

Outside of aesthetic medicine, Dr. Hartt is an avid animal lover and is actively involved in animal rescue. She fosters for Alberta Sphynx Rescue and Adopt-a-Dobe Rescue Society and shares her home with several rescue animals.

“Rescue work is very important to me.”

She also describes herself as naturally introverted. While comfortable in clinical settings, she prefers smaller gatherings and meaningful connection. When asked how her friends would describe her, she answers thoughtfully: loyal, honest, and generous.
