How does CoolSculpting® work?
CoolSculpting® technology uses cryolipolysis. “Cryo” means freezing and “lipolysis” means fat cells. Put that together: freezing fat cells! It works to treat localized areas of fat. The body then breaks down these fat cells and excretes them, leaving the patient with a 20-24% reduction in the area that has been treated.
- CoolSculpting® is the only FDA-cleared procedure to use controlled cooling to safely eliminate diet and exercise resistant fat.
- CoolSculpting® is completely nonsurgical - you can sit back, relax, and Netflix and chill your fat away.

What can I expect during my visit?
During your first visit, you’ll meet with one of our CoolSculpting® technicians for a one-on-one consultation. Together, you’ll go through your goals and address the areas you are inspired to transform. They’ll create a customized treatment plan tailored to your body, your goals, and your budget.
During your treatment, a gel pad and the CoolSculpting® applicator will be applied to the targeted area. The applicator will begin to deliver controlled cooling to target and begin to eliminate the fat. During this time, you can sit back watch your favourite show, read a book, check your email or take a nap!

Once the treated fat cells are crystallized (frozen), your body processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells. Once the treated fat cells are gone, they’re gone for good!

The CoolSculpting® treatment is quite comfortable. When the applicators are first applied to the skin, you will experience an intense cold. As your skin adjusts to the temperature change, it’s relaxing for the rest of the session. You’ll get to watch TV with a cozy blanket and chill out until the treatment is over! When the applicator is removed, the technicians do a hard, two-minute massage to the treated area to return its blood flow, starting the breaking down of fat cells. Those two minutes aren’t comfortable, but well worth it for better results! Most people describe the sensation as “weird” more than painful.

During the procedure, you may experience deep pulling, tugging, pinching, numbness, or discomfort. Following the procedure, typical side effects include temporary numbness, redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, and pain. Rare side effects may also occur.
CoolSculpting® is not for everyone. You should not have CoolSculpting® if you suffer from cryoglobulinemia or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria. The CoolSculpting® procedure is not a treatment for obesity. As with any medical procedure, ask us if the CoolSculpting® procedure is right for you.

Yes, you can! The CoolSculpting® procedure is completely non-surgical, so typically you can return to normal activities immediately. Oftentimes, patients return to work after their CoolSculpting® session is over.

You may start to see changes as quickly as three weeks after your treatment and will experience the most dramatic results after 2-3 months. Your body will also continue to flush out fat cells for up to 4-6 months after treatment.

No supplements or pills are required and you do not have to adopt new diet or exercise habits. Many patients feel more motivated to take care of themselves after their CoolSculpting® treatment. It is as if they get a second lease on their body and want to start fresh by taking even better care of themselves.

There are a number of key differences that make CoolSculpting® a better fit for people looking to get rid of their stubborn fat.
Firstly, CoolSculpting® uses controlled cooling to eliminate troublesome fat. By contrast, SculpSure® seeks to melt fat cells using heat which requires the applicators to reach a fairly high temperature, and this can be quite uncomfortable.
Secondly, SculpSure® is a newcomer to the scene while CoolSculpting® is a tried and tested procedure that has been transforming both male and female patients since 2005. Importantly, CoolSculpting® is FDA-approved for various areas of the body, with unique specialized applicators - including ones for the arms, abdomen, flanks, inner and outer thighs, and submental fat under the chin. With CoolSculpting®, we understand all of the possible outcomes and long-term effects while SculpSure® has only been FDA-approved for the abdomen and flanks in 2015.
Finally, all our CoolSculpting® technicians must be certified and properly trained to perform the treatments. This ensures your results are top-notch and achieved safely. SculpSure® currently has no training program in order to perform the procedure, therefore patients need to choose their practitioner carefully and select a respected medical spa with a good track record.
